Since 1972, the Belleville Little Devils organization has been providing opportunities for thousands of youth to participate in the sport of wrestling.  With multiple Individual State Champions, state medalists, and outstanding teams, the tradition of this program stands alone in the community.

The wrestling program provides opportunities for youth from the ages of 5-14 to learn the fundamentals of wrestling, but also other outstanding life skills such as hard work, commitment, team-work, discipline and sportsmanship.

The program offers opportunities to compete locally and state-wide against youth of similar ages and weights.  With a room full of past Little Devils and other volunteers, the instruction is taught by certified coaches who have been through a background check, and trained through an extensive certification course sponsored by USA Wrestling and the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation.  The Belleville Little Devils Wrestling program is a proud member of the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation and USA Wrestling.

About Our Head Coach

The Belleville Little Devils are proud to have Coach Mike Greenfield at the helm of their historic and prestigious wrestling program.

Coach Mike started wrestling for the Little Devils when he was 6 years old and represented the program as an IKWF state finalist 4 times throughout his pre-high school career. He was recently inducted into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame.

Following his run through the ranks of the IKWF, Coach Greenfield attended Belleville Althoff Catholic High School where he was a 2 time IHSA state champion. First, as a junior in 1994, and again as a senior in 1995.

After graduating from high school, Coach Mike attended Central Michigan University where he wrestled to a career record of 108-39. From 1996-99, he was a three time Mid-American Conference Champion for the Chippewas, and a two-time NCAA All-American, finishing 8th and 7th at the NCAA Championships in 1998 and 1999 respectively. He finished 18-0 in conference duals in his career and helped CMU to a fifth place finish in the 1998 National Championships and a seventh place in 1999. At the time of his graduation, Greenfield ranked tenth all-time in Chippewa history with his 108 wins. He graduated from CMU in 2001 with a degree in physical education.

Coach Mike stayed on as an assistant coach at CMU for one year before accepting a position with Nebraska University as strength and conditioning coach for the wrestling program. Eventually, he was promoted to head assistant coach at Nebraska where he enjoyed a successful run turning out 26 All-Americans, 4 National Champions, and producing Nebraska’s first ever Big 12 wrestling title. He finished his tenure at NU with a record of 116-38-3 in dual competitions, finishing in the top 5 of the NCAA Championships 3 times. Additionally, he coached a world and Olympic champion – Jordan Burroughs, who won an Olympic gold medal in 2012.

Since coming back to Illinois, Coach Greenfield has served on the IKWF board as the director and coach of Greco Roman Wrestling where he led the team to wins at both the Cadet and Jr. Duals and won a title at the Fargo Nationals. In addition to coaching wrestlers on the mat, Coach Mike works closely with local athletes, guiding them through the recruitment and college selection process as they transition from high school to the next level.

Coach Greenfield has a goal to make the Belleville Little Devils wrestling program the best youth wrestling program in the state of Illinois. He wants to see the youth grow in a program that teaches the importance of hard work, determination, goal-setting, and self-perseverance. He recognizes the strong history of the Little Devils, and he hopes to help this generation of young kids write their own piece of that history.
